A camping trip turned quite unpleasant for a man on Catalina Island, off the coast of Southern California, when he was gored by a bison Saturday evening. The animal was grazing near a log upon which the man was sitting at Little Harbor Campground, authorities tell the Orange County Register. As the man saw the bison coming closer, he tried to leave the area, but the animal charged him and gored his left arm, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department sergeant. The man was treated at the scene, then airlifted to a medical center on the mainland; he was said to be in stable condition, CBS Los Angeles reports. Bison roam the back side of the island, but the sergeant says attacks are "very rare." (The island's bison have been put on birth control in the past.)
