The Underdogs Do It: Eagles Defeat Patriots

The underdog Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New England Patriots Sunday to win Super Bowl LII in a wildly entertaining game. This time, there were no last-minute heroics for Tom Brady, who nonetheless threw for more than 400 yards. With his team trailing 38-33 with a little more than 2 minutes remaining, Brady fumbled the ball on a sack, allowing the Eagles, led by Nick Foles, to tack on another field goal. The Patriots got the ball back with about a minute to go, but failed to score on a last-second Hail Mary pass. Final score: 41-33.

Previously, Foles threw the go-ahead 5-yard touchdown pass to Zach Ertz with 2:21 to go, setting up the defensive play by Brandon Graham on the ensuing possession to strip Brady of the ball, per the AP. The Eagles had blown a 12-point lead in the high-scoring matchup before rallying behind their backup quarterback, who will go down in Philadelphia lore after throwing for 373 yards and three touchdowns and catching another on a fourth-down trick play to give the Eagles their first championship since 1960.
