Football fans who react to big playoff games by climbing light poles should probably stay away from Philadelphia today. That's because a crew of city workers calling themselves the "Crisco Cops" spent the morning slathering poles throughout the city in grease to prevent fans from climbing them after this afternoon's NFC Championship game. Fox 9 reports. The local news station tweeted about the emergence of the Crisco Cops this morning, saying they were there to prevent Eagles fans from climbing poles after the team's game with the Minnesota Vikings, which will decide who will be going to the Super Bowl.
Today's game will be a big one for both teams. The Eagles haven't been to the big game since 2004, and if the Vikings win today they would be the first team in NFL history to play a Super Bowl in its home stadium. Neither team has ever won the Super Bowl. Hence the city's concern. After all, sports fans have been known to climb light poles out of both joy and disappointment, SB Nation reports.
