Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas laid into President Trump, among others, in a two-hour speech Monday, saying he rejects Trump's attempt for a Middle East peace "deal of the century"—and he hopes the president's house is demolished. Abbas, addressing the Palestinian Central Council, said he had rejected a proposal for the Jerusalem suburb of Abu Dis to serve as the capital of a future Palestinian state following Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital city, the Washington Post reports. "We said no to Trump," Abbas said. “We won't accept his project; his deal of the century is the slap of the century, and we will respond." He also slammed Trump's threat to cut off US aid.
Abbas said to Trump, "Yehreb Beitak," a common insult which translates as "may your house be demolished" and brought laughter from the audience, the AP reports. He rejected Trump's claim that the Palestinians had walked away from negotiations, saying the president hadn't offered any talks. Abbas, who said he would no longer accept the US as a mediator for peace talks, also attacked US envoy to the United Nations Nikki Haley, saying she is a "disgrace" who wears high heels "not for elegance, but to use to hit anyone who attacks Israel." After the speech, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Abbas had "lost his senses" and appears to have decided to confront both the US and Israel instead of joining peace talks.
