The latest class of Golden Globe nominees were announced this week, and People and EW.com, report that Jada Pinkett Smith Twitter-blasted the Hollywood Foreign Press Association after Tiffany Haddish, her co-star in the comedy Girls Trip, didn't receive a nod. But Pinkett Smith says it's not that Haddish wasn't nominated that has her "upset"—it's that she's "discouraged about the fact that the Hollywood Foreign Press/@goldenglobes wouldn't even WATCH the movie," yet still asked Haddish to serve as a presenter at the awards show on Jan. 7. "Tiff was hands down the funniest person on screen in 2017 and we couldn't get eyes on the film or a press conference," Pinkett Smith noted. "How could a nom happen & how much more critical acclaim must a movie have to simply get a screening?"

Pinkett Smith, who boycotted the 2016 Oscars for lack of diversity among nominations, says she thinks the movie, which brought in $115 million domestically, was likely ignored due to an "antiquated" system. "Hollywood has systems in place that must learn to expand its concepts of race, gender equality and inclusion in regard to its perceptions of art across the board," she wrote, also mentioning The Big Sick and Get Out as other films starring people of color that were neglected or miscategorized by the HFPA. But a source tells People there was a July 18 screening of Girls Trip and that the HFPA was invited to the movie's premiere. And Kristopher Tapley of Variety tweeted that, per Universal, which released the movie, the HFPA also received screeners. "However, a press conference was indeed foregone, because the group was unable to travel to New Orleans for the junket," Tapley noted. (More Golden Globes stories.)
