On Sunday, Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch stood for a national anthem for the first time this season. It was the Mexican one. Lynch remained seated for the US national anthem before the team's game in Mexico City against the New England Patriots, Sports Illustrated reports. Lynch has stayed seated during the US anthem before every game since coming out of retirement this year. He doesn't tend to speak to the media and hasn't discussed his reason for the protests, though he wore an "Everybody vs. Trump" shirt before a game early last month, the Washington Post notes. And his latest protest definitely caught the president's attention.
Lynch "stands for the Mexican Anthem and sits down to boos for our National Anthem," Trump tweeted Monday morning. "Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down." Trump has previously made the anthem protests an issue. In Sunday's game, meanwhile, the Raiders ended up losing 33-8 at the Estadio Azteca.
