Chris Christie still has a couple more months as governor of New Jersey, but on the day his eventual successor was elected, Christie offered what Salon calls a pretty fitting goodbye to voters in his state. While chatting with reporters outside his local polling site Tuesday, Christie was approached by a woman upset he didn't merge a borough and a township (the township where Christie himself resides), CNN reports. "You want to merge Mendham Township and Mendham Borough, run for the township committee," the governor said in the video shot by New York Times reporter Nick Corasaniti. "No, I know, 'cause that's too hard. It's easier to sit here and complain. ... You're so frustrated and you know what, the easiest thing in the world, the easiest thing in the world is to stand where you stand and stand on the sidelines and critique."
"Go in and vote for whatever you want, I never said I was going to merge the two towns," he said, adding that he doesn't even have the authority to do so. As the woman walked away, Christie concluded, "But you know what? That's the joy of public service. ... It's serving folks like you that is really such a unique joy. It really is. You're fabulous."
