Lou Diamond Phillips spent a night behind bars after asking a cop for directions while allegedly drunk behind the wheel. Phillips was driving in Portland, Texas, around 1:35am Friday when he pulled up behind a police vehicle at a traffic stop, reports KRIS 6. Phillips reportedly told the officer who approached his vehicle that he was lost, then asked for directions. The officer immediately suspected the actor was intoxicated, however, and asked him to take a field sobriety test, reports TMZ.
Best known for roles in La Bamba and Stand and Deliver, Phillips—who was scheduled to speak at an event in Corpus Christi later Friday, per USA Today—failed the test. TMZ reports he was then taken to a police station for a breath test and blew 0.20, or more than two times the legal limit. The 55-year-old actor remained in San Patricio County Jail as of 8am Friday. He is expected to attend a bail hearing later in the day, reports the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. (More Lou Diamond Phillips stories.)
