MIT tops the Ivies in new WalletHub ranking

What college provides the best bang for the buck? It may be a subjective question, but WalletHub crunches data on everything from tuition and student-faculty ratio to student debt and graduates' salaries at nearly 1,000 colleges and universities for its new ranking. The Ivy League is well represented in the upper ranks, but top honors go elsewhere.

Here are the overall rankings of the top 10, with the school's rating out of 100:

  1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 81.52
  2. Princeton, 79.4
  3. Harvard, 79.37
  4. Stanford, 77.55
  5. California Institute of Technology, 77.39
  6. Yale University, 77.37
  7. Duke, 76.87
  8. University of Pennsylvania, 75.82
  9. Columbia, 75.27
  10. Rice University, 75.15

Here are the best and worst in terms of student-loan debt, starting with the best:

  1. Paul Quinn College, Texas
  2. Lane College, Tennessee
  3. University of Tennessee-Chattanooga
  4. Iowa Wesleyan University
  5. University of Texas of the Permian Basin
The worst:
  1. Baylor University, Texas
  2. University of Dubuque, Iowa
  3. Hampton University, Virginia
  4. Graceland University, Iowa
  5. Texas Christian University

The best and worst in terms of post-attendance median salaries, starting with the best:

  1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  2. Harvard
  3. Georgetown
  4. Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey
  5. Stanford
The worst:
  1. St. Augustine's University, North Carolina
  2. Central State University, Ohio
  3. (tie) Edward Waters College, Florida
  4. (tie) Lane College, Tennessee
  5. Livingstone College, North Carolina
