Steve Wozniak co-founded Apple, and now he's getting into the education game. “Our goal is to educate and train people in employable digital skills without putting them into years of debt,” Wozniak says in a press release announcing the launch of Woz U. “People often are afraid to choose a technology-based career because they think they can’t do it. I know they can, and I want to show them how.” While Woz U will offer online courses only to start, Wozniak plans to open physical locations in more than 30 cities worldwide, TechCrunch reports.
Woz U will start by offering courses for burgeoning computer support specialists and software developers but plans to expand with courses on apps, cybersecurity, and data science next year, Engadget reports. Woz U will offer a platform for companies to recruit, train, and hire employees and a 12 to 16-month accelerator program to find "elite talent." It also plans to provide STEAM programs to K-12 schools. A Woz U app will help prospective students figure out which tech field they should go into. No word yet on how much Woz U will cost.
