Zappos Offers to Pay for All 58 Vegas Funerals

All 58 people killed in the mass shooting in Las Vegas could have their funerals paid for by Zappos. After paying a total of $20,000 to three families struggling to cover funeral costs, the Las Vegas-based online retailer offered Thursday to cover the same costs for all those killed in the Oct. 1 tragedy, reports the Las Vegas Sun and Las Vegas Review-Journal. In addition, the company says it will match up to $1 million donated to a CrowdRise.com account, noting "100% of funds raised will help support victims and their families." The account totaled $350,000 as of Friday. Money for shooting victims is also collecting in a GoFundMe account operated by the National Center for Victims of Crime, which totaled $10.7 million as of Friday.

A NCVC rep says that money will "be pooled into our account with money from other sources, and all of that will create one, big lump sum that will be divided up 100% among the victims," per the Review-Journal. MGM Resorts has donated $3 million to "humanitarian assistance to victims" and to "organizations who provide support to those who are first on the scene to assist in traumatic events." Caesars Entertainment has also amassed $2 million in donations, while Station Casinos, Boyd Gaming, and UFC have each committed to a $1 million donation, per CNN. It's not clear how those funds will be distributed, but the Review-Journal reports at least some of the millions will likely go toward community needs, including mental health services.
