James Woods Called Actress a Liar. She Just Responded

It started off as a Twitter spat between actors Armie Hammer and James Woods. Woods made a NAMBLA reference about Hammer's upcoming film (in which the latter plays a 24-year-old dating a 17-year-old), to which Hammer retorted: "Didn't you date a 19 year old when you were 60.......?" But it was actress Amber Tamblyn who raised the most eyebrows when she replied to Hammer's tweet, posting Monday: "James Woods tried to pick me and my friend up at a restaurant once. He wanted to take us to Vegas. 'I'm 16' I said. 'Even better' he said." Woods blasted Tamblyn's tale as "a lie," though she offered a text exchange with the friend she says was with her. Tamblyn's latest rebuttal: an open letter to Woods in Teen Vogue. "Since you've now called me a liar, I will now call you a silencer," she writes. "I see your gaslight and now will raise you a scorched earth."

Tamblyn, married to comedian David Cross (who's been posting his own thoughts on the matter), then launches into very specific detail about the incident she says took place at a Hollywood diner nearly two decades ago, acknowledging that Woods probably didn't know who she was at the time. Tamblyn says he tried to make his invite to Vegas seem "innocent … something predatory men like to do" and that she'd bet there were others he's tried this with "because you can get away with it." But the 34-year-old also informs Woods this is a "teachable moment" and a "gift," and that she hopes he can "go inward now and ask yourself the hard stuff." "Are you and your history with women and girls a part of the problem, Mr. Woods?" she asks, though, upon wondering if he'll really take a moment to self-examine, she concedes: "I won't hold my breath."
