President Trump is telling Americans to follow the advice of government and law enforcement officials and get out of the path of Hurricane Irma, which could hit Florida late Saturday or early Sunday before making its way to Georgia. "Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our people," Trump said in a video posted to Twitter Friday. In a tweet, Trump added that Irma is a storm "of epic proportion, perhaps bigger than we have ever seen. Be safe and get out of its way, if possible." Meanwhile, the president's own Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach is under an evacuation order, per the Miami Herald.
Earlier, Trump tweeted his support for the One America Appeal campaign that will see 100% of money raised go toward recovery efforts in the aftermath of Irma and superstorm Harvey in Texas and Louisiana. The campaign was announced by former presidents Barack Obama, George W Bush, Bill Clinton, George HW Bush, and Jimmy Carter and represents their first philanthropic collaboration since Trump's election, reports the AP. "I'm proud to stand with Presidents for #OneAmericaAppeal," Trump said. "We will confront ANY challenge, no matter how strong the winds or high the water." (More Hurricane Irma stories.)
