Salt Lake City DA Wants FBI on Arrested Nurse Case

The FBI has apparently gotten involved in the case of a Utah nurse arrested for not allowing a police officer to draw blood from a patient. Per KSL, Salt Lake City DA Sim Gill has reported he submitted a formal request to the agency to see if Alex Wubbels' civil rights were violated when cop Jeff Payne detained her—specifically, if a crime was committed by a "person acting under any color of law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution" or other US laws, as described on the DOJ website.

Gill says he wants to bring FBI agents into the case because there are issues "only they can investigate" in a matter that goes "beyond merely a criminal investigation." He adds his request doesn't mean his office is off the case, just that he wants to "leave no stone unturned" as the investigation into possible criminal charges continues, the Deseret News reports. Per the Salt Lake Tribune, the FBI issued a release Thursday noting it had agreed to look into the case and had started its probe "when we found out about [the incident] in the media."
