The 12-year mystery surrounding the disappearance of Natalee Holloway got even more lurid this week, with reports from an informant that the Alabama teen's skeletal remains were dug up, mixed with the remains of a dead dog, cremated, and scattered off Aruba. The report was broadcast yesterday on the third episode of the Oxygen series The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway, which follows Dave Holloway as he searches for the truth behind the infamous disappearance of his daughter from Aruba in May 2005. Holloway and his private investigator, T.J. Ward, set up a sting in February 2016 with the man who claims he moved Holloway's remains at the request of her suspected killer, Joran van der Sloot, People reports
The man claims van der Sloot offered him $1500 to dig up Holloway's remains and move them, then dug up the dog remains himself to mix with those of the Alabama teen. After paying $200 at a crematory, the man says he gave the ashes back to van der Sloot, who scattered them at sea. The man also says he and van der Sloot were lovers. Reports of the sting come one week after it was revealed on an earlier episode of The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway that the remains of a woman of Eastern European descent had been discovered in Aruba and that the identity of those remains will be revealed within two weeks, Fox News reports. A public prosecutor in Aruba denied that report, however, saying the discovered remains were those of an animal. (More Natalee Holloway stories.)
