A police officer far removed from the weekend violence in Virginia faces disciplinary action because of it. That's because Conrad Lariviere, a cop from Springfield, Mass., made what even he admits is a "stupid comment" online about Saturday's fatal car crash, reports MassLive. "Hahahaha love this, maybe people shouldn't block roads," Lariviere wrote on Facebook in response to a story about the car plowing into counter-protesters. Someone who saw the comment complained to the city police department.
"Never would I want someone to get murdered," Lariviere told MassLive. He said he wasn't a racist and didn't support the white supremacist rally, adding, "I'm a good man who made a stupid comment and would just like to be left alone." Springfield's police chief says he has launched an investigation, and the matter will be brought before a police review board. Mayor Domenic Sarno doesn't sound sympathetic. "There is no place for this in our society, let alone from a Springfield police officer," he said, per CBS Boston. (More police officer stories.)
