The baby delivered last month by a woman who had been struck by lightning died this week, WBBH reports. Meghan Davidson was nine months pregnant and walking with her mother June 29 in Florida when she was hit by lightning. Davidson suffered a collapsed lung and went into cardiac arrest. According to WPTV, she delivered her son, Owen, via C-section June 30—a week before his due date.
As late as July 4, Owen's heart appeared fine, though he needed oxygen assistance. It's unclear what caused his death Wednesday. The baby becomes the sixth person to be killed by lightning in the US this year. Four of those deaths were in Florida. WTSP reports Meghan Davidson had been released from the hospital July 7.
