Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand gave a fairly standard speech critical of President Trump on Friday, save for two lines: "Has he kept his promises? No. F--- no,” she told the Personal Democracy Forum in New York City. And: "If we are not helping people, we should go the f---home." Innocent slip-ups? More like a calculated strategy, with the Hill noting that she used the latter line in an interview with New York magazine in April.

A spokesperson defends the choices, per CNN. "I think it's appropriate for a senator to be exactly who they are—Kirsten is going to continue to be exactly who she is and always has been." Gillibrand, though, isn't the only politician swearing publicly, and a piece in Politico that rounds up other examples suggests it might be an asset in an "age of Trumpian combativeness." CNN's piece points out that Gillibrand is mentioned as a Democratic presidential candidate, but her spokesperson dismissed the idea that she's trying to shape her public image toward that end. The senator herself has fended off the speculation. (More Kirsten Gillibrand stories.)
