Sports / Aaron Hernandez Hernandez Fiancee Breaks Silence on Suicide She thought suicide call was a cruel 'trick' By Rob Quinn, Newser Staff Posted May 11, 2017 4:07 AM CDT Copied Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez attends the trial of Hernandez at Bristol County Superior Court on Feb. 11, 2015, in Fall River, Mass. (AP Photo/The Boston Herald, Ted Fitzgerald, Pool) Aaron Hernandez's fiancee says his prison suicide last month was so unexpected that when she got the news in a phone call, she thought it was "a hoax, some cruel person playing a trick on me." In a two-part Dr. Phil interview that will air on May 15 and 16, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez says she had no idea that Hernandez was thinking about killing himself, especially since he had been acquitted of a double murder just days earlier, USA Today reports. "I felt like we were looking so bright," she says. "We were going up a ladder to a positive direction." Jenkins-Hernandez, mother of the former New England Patriot's 4-year-old daughter, says suicide did not come up in her final conversation with Hernandez. People reports that in the interview with Dr. Phil McGraw, Jenkins-Hernandez will also address rumors that her fiancee had a male lover in prison and a court's recent voiding of Hernandez's conviction in a 2013 murder under a Massachusetts law that vacates convictions if the suspect dies while the case is being appealed. (Prosecutors used Hernandez's suicide note to Jenkins-Hernandez to argue against voiding the conviction.) Report an error
