Thousands of Palestinians escaped heavy fighting inside a Lebanon refugee camp yesterday. The BBC reports vehicles flying white flags and crammed with people fled the Nahr al-Bared camp during a lull in the battle between Lebanese army units and the militant group Fatah al-Islam. Refugees are heading for another camp in Northern Lebanon.

The fighting has claimed at least 50 lives since Sunday, and ravaged the camp. BBC News quoted a Palestinian refugee who described conditions inside the camp. "No power, no food, no water. There is no hospital inside the camp. There are a lot of people injured. There are a lot of people dying." (More Lebanon stories.)
