Employees at a Pennsylvania McDonald's were instrumental in helping police locate the "Facebook Killer," WOIO reports. Steve Stephens pulled into the McDonald's drive-thru in Erie on Tuesday morning, ordering a 20-piece Chicken McNuggets and fries. While the man—wanted on suspicion of killing an elderly man on Facebook Live—"acted normal," McDonald's employee Henry Sayers says he recognized Stephens from the news and had seen a report that he may be in Erie. Staff immediately called 911.
Sayers tells GoErie.com they told Stephens his fries "were going to be a minute" to try and stall him at the McDonald's. But the restaurant's owner, Tom Ducharme, says Stephens—probably getting suspicious—left without the fries. Police caught up with Stephens as he was leaving the McDonald's, initiating a chase that ended with Stephens fatally shooting himself. It ended a three-day manhunt. "I'm just very proud of my staff and how they handled it," Ducharme tells NBC News. (More McDonald's stories.)
