American Airlines plans to cancel another 570 flights tomorrow, providing little relief for passengers in a jam after three consecutive days of massive snarls, the AP reports. The airline, however, said it was making progress getting wiring up to snuff on its MD-80s and planned to have the entire fleet of 300 planes back in the sky by Saturday, the New York Times notes.
About 250,000 passengers have been left in the lurch since Tuesday, mostly at O'Hare, La Guardia, and Dallas-Fort Worth airports. American said it expects to lose "tens of millions of dollars" as a result of the delays. Alaska Airlines, which is phasing out its MD-80s in favor of Boeing 737s, canceled 11 flights today after grounding 31 the previous two days. (More airline delays stories.)
