Blue was the new black on this year's red carpet in the form of ACLU ribbons, E! Online reports. The ribbons are part of the civil rights advocacy organization's "Stand With ACLU" drive, which has taken on momentum in the wake of President Trump's immigration ban. The group notes it hoped attendees of the show would wear the ribbons to support "the rights and civil liberties guaranteed by the Constitution to everyone in the United States," per People.

It all started with Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga, whose stylist Karla Welch posted an Instagram pic of Negga, up for a best actress Oscar for Loving, sporting the ribbon on her red gown. "The accessory I'm most proud of," Welch wrote, adding the hashtags #ACLU and #MegaNegga. Other stars who wore the ribbons include Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda and model Karlie Kloss.
