GM Workers Earn Record-Setting Bonus

Score one for unions. The Detroit Free Press reports 52,000 hourly workers at General Motors will receive an up-to-$12,000 bonus later this month after the company netted a $12 billion profit in North America last year. The bonuses are part of a profit-sharing agreement negotiated by the United Auto Workers union in 2011, according to the BBC. The deal could cost GM as much as $624 million in bonuses this year, but the union's vice president says workers "deserve every penny." This year's record-setting bonus was due to the rising popularity of SUVs, pick-up trucks, and Chevy. (More General Motors stories.)
