On the Grab Your Wallet website, you'll see scores of companies the site's founders found they "could no longer in good conscience shop at" because of ties to Donald Trump; the site encourages other people to boycott these companies, too. But when GYW added LL Bean to the list after finding out Linda Bean, who serves on her company's board, donated money to the Trump campaign, Trump himself stepped in, Reuters reports. "Thank you to Linda Bean of L.L.Bean for your great support and courage. People will support you even more now. Buy L.L.Bean," he tweeted early Thursday, including the Twitter handle @LBPerfectMaine, a separate company owned by Bean that features a restaurant and boat tours, per the Boston Globe. The boycott against LL Bean started last week, and the Maine-based company immediately tried to step away from Linda Bean's politics.
The company said in a Sunday Facebook post it was "disappointed" about the boycott, as Bean herself is just one of more than 50 family members involved with the company who "hold views and embrace causes across the political spectrum, just as our employees and customers do." It also reminded the public that more than 5,000 workers are employed by the company and that, as a company, "we stay out of politics." Meanwhile, people are now "freaking out" about Trump's tweet, per the Huffington Post, with some saying the president-elect was acting in an unpresidential way (read: like an ad agency) by promoting a retail brand via Twitter. Others agree with Bean herself, who appeared on Fox & Friends Thursday and said the boycott against LL Bean was "bullying." "I'm not going to back down.
