Serial subject Adnan Syed won't be going free before his new trial. Syed, convicted in 2000 of murdering his high school girlfriend Hae Min Lee, had requested to be released on bail after being granted a new trial based in part on evidence and questions raised during the Serial podcast, which discussed his case during its first season. Syed's attorney argued that Syed has spent 17 years unfairly jailed, but in an opinion released Wednesday, a Baltimore Circuit judge said that since the "nature and circumstances of the offenses are the most serious in nature and there is still compelling evidence against" Syed, he will remain behind bars, the Baltimore Sun reports.
