George RR Martin, the author behind possibly the bloodiest fantasy series of all time, Game of Thrones, has a dire prediction now that the US has elected soon-to-be President Trump: "Winter is coming. I told you so." The sentiment came as part of a blog post titled "President Pussygrabber" in which Martin lamented, "America has spoken. I really thought we were better than this. Guess not. Trump was the least qualified candidate ever nominated by a major party for the presidency. Come January, he will become the worst president in American history, and a dangerously unstable player on the world stage. ... Over the next four years, our problems are going to get much, much worse."
As Time notes, "None of this, of course, is new information, or any kind of sentiment we haven’t already heard. But there’s something about seeing them written by the man who constructed one of the darkest fictional universes—and who based that world largely on our own history, by the way—that makes you shudder all over again." Another famous screenwriter weighed in on the election with similar sentiments: "I won’t sugarcoat it—this is truly horrible," Aaron Sorkin wrote in an open letter to his 15-year-old daughter, Roxy, and her mother, Julia, published at Vanity Fair. "The Klan won last night. White nationalists. Sexists, racists and buffoons." So, what will the Sorkins do now? "We’ll f---ing fight. (Roxy, there’s a time for this kind of language and it’s now.)"
