Melania Trump gave a rare campaign speech Thursday—her first since the Republican National Convention—that Jezebel notes was "rich with apparently unnoticed irony." Talking about what she'll focus on as first lady, Trump said she wants to stop bullying on social media and be an "advocate for women and children," USA Today reports. "Our culture has gotten too mean and too rough," she said during the speech in Pennsylvania. She said "fragile" children and teens are the victims of "mean words" and are made fun of for being ugly or dumb. "We have to find a better way to talk to each other, to disagree with each other, to respect each other," she said.
USA Today points out that Trump's speech ignored the fact that her husband has launched "bare-knuckled personal attacks" on everyone from Rosie O'Donnell to the mother of a dead soldier. CNN reports that Donald Trump has a "long history of cyberbullying" and has for years insulted others "with demeaning comments based on their appearances and intelligence." And Jezebel says he's a "man who uses Twitter as a place to settle personal affronts." The speech was part of an effort by the Trump campaign to reach suburban women.
