We've got a modern-day Hatfield and McCoy scenario in Tennessee that's resulted in one family's home succumbing to the wrath of a backhoe and a member of the other family charged with being the wrath behind said backhoe, Fox13 reports. The Tipton County Sheriff's Office says it received a call around 2:15am Saturday from a concerned neighbor who said there was a "large orange piece of equipment" destroying John Higdon's trailer home, per WREG. When deputies arrived at the scene, the trailer had been severely damaged, including busted water pipes and caved-in walls. They spotted the dirt-digging machine with debris matching that destruction in the yard of another neighbor, 57-year-old Edgar McLellan, who was arrested on charges of trespassing and felony vandalism.
Higdon family members, including John's brother, Sam, profess they have no clue what prompted the backhoe blitz. "Nope, no reason. Can't figure it out. We want answers," Sam Higdon tells Fox13. But local law enforcement may have some insight, noting the two families have been battling, and that just a few hours before the bulldozer came through, Higdon had been arrested for reckless endangerment after shooting into the woods outside his home (he thought some of McLellan's workers were slinking around the property). Both men are out of jail on bond and are set to be arraigned this week. "I am thankful that no one was injured by either of the men arrested in this neighbor's dispute," the sheriff says.
