The drug overdose that killed Anna Nicole Smith’s 20-year-old son was accidental, a Bahamas jury ruled today, recommending no criminal charges in Daniel Smith's 2006 death. The inquest, which began in November, had already determined there was no evidence of homicide; an autopsy indicated the model's son probably died from a lethal combination of methadone and antidepressants, the AP reports.
The seven jurors deliberated for less than two hours before returning their verdict. The former Playboy playmate’s son died Sept. 10, 2006, after traveling to the Bahamas to meet his newborn half-sister, Dannielynn. He spent the night in a room with his mother—who herself died of a drug overdose died five months later—and the baby, before he lost consciousness. (More Anna Nicole Smith stories.)
