One of Donald Trump's vanquished rivals took to the stage at the Republican National Convention Monday night, but he didn't exactly sing Trump's praises. As the Austin American-Statesman notes, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry did not mention Trump at all in his brief remarks. Perry's main duty was to introduce former Navy SEAL Marcus Lutrell, and his lack of a Trump reference caught the attention of news outlets happy to point out that Perry called Trump a "cancer on conservatism" last year.
Meanwhile, the Perry for President website still features a news release from 2015 in which then-candidate Perry calls Trump "unfit" to be president because of his criticism of John McCain's POW record and demands that he withdraw, reports the LA Times. Still, the Atlantic notes that Perry's very presence on stage constitutes a show of support for Trump, no matter the lack of a mention. And Perry did talk about making "America Great Again" toward the end of his remarks. See Perry's and Lutrell's speeches here. (More Rick Perry stories.)
