Donald Trump recently tried to instigate a boycott of Apple. Well, it looks like Apple is boycotting him right back. Sources close to the company tell Politico that Apple won't be providing any funding or technology for next month's Republican National Convention in Cleveland. The given reason: Trump's comments on immigrants, minorities, and women. Apple, and tech companies in general, have a history of nonpartisan donations. In 2008, Apple donated $140,000 in MacBooks and more to the conventions of both parties. It didn't give in 2012 after the Democrats decided not to accept corporate donations.
Trump and Apple have clashed in recent months. Trump called for the boycott after Apple refused to help the FBI unlock an iPhone belonging to the San Bernardino shooters. He also threatened he would force Apple to "build their damn computers and things in this country," 9 to 5 Mac reports. While Apple appears to have pulled out of the 2016 Republican convention, Google, Facebook, and Microsoft still plan on contributing. But Apple isn't completely alone. HP, a major donor in 2012, recently announced it wouldn't help fund this year's convention in protest of Trump. And BuzzFeed pulled out of a "lucrative ad deal" with the RNC over Trump, according to the Verge. One anti-Trump protestor tells Politico that tech companies need to decide “whether they want to align their brand with racism, hatred and misogyny.” (More Apple stories.)
