Just two more episodes to go now in this season's Game of Thrones, and the latest was filled not so much with violence as with "powerful reunions and heartbreaking farewells," observes Rolling Stone. Here's a (spoiler-filled) look at some reaction:
- Arya Stark's tale fell victim to "bad storytelling," writes Matthew Yglesias at Vox, but she still emerges on the good side of the ledger in his winners/losers rundown.
- At the New York Times, Jeremy Egner was similarly disappointed. All that setup? "A man is underwhelmed."
- Well, three of the hottest fan theories appear to have bit the dust, notes Bill Bradley at the Huffington Post, including one about Lady Stoneheart. He runs them down and notes that one involving Arya still lives.
- Sunday's episode may have been a little short on fireworks, but "next week's looks epic," observes Time. Finally, we'll get Jon Snow vs. Ramsay Bolton, or so it appears.
- After the latest episode, a blogger at the Ringer thinks the show has pretty much given up on character development. Everyone seems to be reverting to the same old form, writes Alison Herman.
- This felt like a set-the-table kind of episode, writes Chris Taylor at Mashable. "But along with the maneuvering, we got some of the show's best disquisitions on life, love and loyalty, with a side helping of honor and dignity."
- Another hint of things to come: The Bustle is intrigued about what the "little birds" might have to say to Cersei Lannister.
