If you want to learn more about Joe Heck, a congressman and Senate candidate from Nevada, don't go to joeheck.com. All you'll find there is a lot of very graphic anime pornography. Still, that's where Sharron Angle, Heck's opponent for the GOP Senate nomination, directed voters by way of a newsletter campaign mailer, Roll Call reports. On Thursday, Angle's campaign corrected the digital version of the newsletter and (sort of) apologized for the mistake, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal, saying, "The campaign has absolutely nothing to do with this domain, and sincerely apologizes for this printing error, as the Heck campaign has changed their web address a number of times." But Heck's campaign manager, Brian Baluta, tells the newspaper that Heck has only ever used two domains, drjoeheck.com and heck4nevada.com.
"The Angle campaign has been spreading misinformation to voters and unfortunately this is only the latest, ridiculous, dirty trick," Baluta says. Angle, who lost to Sen. Harry Reid in 2010, has made her fair share of campaign blunders—like the time she said "Second Amendment remedies" may be needed to turn Congress around, Wonkette reports. As for the joeheck.com domain (which redirects Web surfers to the cartoon porn site), it "has had an interesting past," the Review-Journal notes. In 2011, it began redirecting users to another site (heckschecks.com), a site funded by Nevada's Democratic party that listed payments Heck had received from various government agencies. Registered in 2009, joeheck.com is among more than 200 domains belonging to John Rashad of Minnesota, according to Role Call. (More Nevada stories.)
