Top 10 Deadliest States for Pedestrians

If you would rather not get plowed into by a car during your evening stroll, Minnesota might be a better place to settle down than New Mexico. That's according to recent stats compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which examined traffic accident data to see which states had the highest pedestrian death rates in 2014, 24/7 Wall Street reports. The Land of Enchantment (that's New Mexico) was deemed the most dangerous state for pedestrians, with 3.55 deaths per 100,000 residents. Minnesota, meanwhile, came in with just 0.27 deaths per 100,000. Where most of these pedestrian fatalities take place: in urban areas where pedestrians are likely to be ambling about near the street. The 10 most perilous states for walkers:

3. Delaware, 2.67
4. Nevada, 2.47
5. Louisiana, 2.26
6. South Carolina, 2.21
