Historic flooding has been causing havoc in central and southeast Texas and state prisons have not been spared. Officials say around 50 inmates rioted at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's Luther Unit in Navasota, 70 miles north of Houston, Saturday night after a power outage caused by storms and flooding, the Houston Chronicle. Corrections officers had to use a chemical agent on some inmates to end the disturbance, officials say.

In coastal Brazoria County, around 2,600 inmates were evacuated from two prisons as the Brazos River rose and flooding was expected. Across the state, flooding killed at least six people over the weekend, including a woman who died in Comfort, 45 miles north of San Antonio, when a swollen creek swept a car from a street, the AP reports.
