'Hottest Vegan': 5 Craziest Crimes of the Week

A bag, a T-shirt, and a pizza are accessories that all have a starring role in this week's craziest crimes.

• TV Reporter Accused of Pooping in Public: An Arizona TV reporter was covering a story in the city of Goodyear when things went south. "Apparently he needed to relieve himself," a police spokesman says. But Jonathan Lowe, 33, told police that he had to stay in the area, so heading to a nearby market to unburden his bowels was out. "I've been feeling very sick and I've been stuck in this van all day," he reportedly said. And so he allegedly picked this public location to defecate.
• Guy Guesses Password, Changes Road Sign: A 26-year-old man in central Texas allegedly couldn't resist temptation when he walked by an electronic road sign warning motorists about construction. Police say Geoffrey Eltgroth correctly guessed the username and password and changed the sign to read these three words; doing so could land him in prison for 10 years.

• NYC's 'Hottest Vegan' Felled by Pizza: Hailed as the city's "hottest vegan" by the New York Post, Sarma Melngailis, the owner of the vegan restaurant Pure Food and Wine seemed to have it all—until a man by the name of Anthony Strangis entered the picture, sometime around 2013. By 2014, Melngailis had failed to make payroll multiple times while spending tens of thousands on casino trips, European vacations, and Rolexes. The two were on the lam for nearly a year, but were busted last week in a hotel in Sevierville, Tenn., in a most ironic way.
• Woman Arrested for Domestic Violence While Wearing Very Ironic T-Shirt: Police say 38-year-old Emily Wilson of Maine was arguing with her husband in their bedroom—she believed he was having an affair—when she waved a gun around before firing it into their mattress. She also allegedly grabbed her husband's wrist. The social studies teacher was arrested, and her booking photo shows she was wearing an unfortunate T-shirt at the time.
• Bag's Lettering Gets Woman Fined by Cops: A woman in Madrid was fined by police Sunday for carrying a bag that displayed the acronym "ACAB." The two riot officers that stopped graphic designer Belén Lobero claimed it stood for "All Cops Are Bastards." That meaning of the acronym dates back to the 1970s, was made famous by a British punk band, and is frequently used by soccer hooligans—except that's not at all what Lobero's bag was about.
