Native Americans Take Surprising Stance on 'Redskins'

Thousands of Native Americans who turned out to protest the Washington Redskins back in 2014 were apparently in the minority. A Washington Post poll of 504 Native Americans across every state finds that nine in 10 aren't bothered by the moniker labeled offensive by others. What's more, eight in 10 said they wouldn't be offended if a non-native called them by that name, including one woman who said she was proud to be "of the Redskins." A 2004 poll came up with a similar result and has been widely cited by Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, who vows not to change the team name. The new poll suggests a decade or so of controversy hasn't changed attitudes within the Native American community all that much. (More Washington Redskins stories.)
