An Army vet and father of two who, somewhat miraculously, woke from a 48-day coma last month in Florida had one thing on his mind: Taco Bell. USA Today reports 35-year-old Jake Booth slipped into a coma after his bronchitis turned into pneumonia and caused a heart attack. His family didn't know if he'd ever wake up, and doctors weren't sure he'd know who he was if he did. But not only did Booth know who he was when he regained consciousness April 3, he remembered his favorite food, too, according to the Huffington Post. Booth, who still struggles to speak, managed to croak out "I want Taco Bell." "That was the very first thing he said." his brother Jason Schwartz tells USA Today.
It would be 22 days before Booth was medically ready to have his request granted. But finally the big day arrived. For his first actual meal in 70 days, Booth wolfed down eight and a half Crunchy Tacos from Taco Bell. “We’d all been waiting an entire month for him to eat those tacos,” Schwartz tells USA Today. “It was symbolic of the entire thing—more of a metaphor of him having woken up and being given a second chance at life.” Booth's friend Tyler Chronister snapped an amazing photo and shared it on Reddit with the message: "I have never seen true happiness until now." Booth may have gotten his tacos, but he still has a long recovery ahead. A GoFundMe page is attempting to raise a year's salary—$50,000—to support his wife and young children while he recuperates.
