Hey, Serena Williams: Keep it real. That's the message from fans who were outraged when the tennis star late last week posted on Instagram a photo of herself that had apparently been Photoshopped to make her waistline slimmer. Williams removed the black and white photo, which features her in a leotard and is from a shoot for People's Most Beautiful 2016 list, after more than 600 fans complained about it in the span of two hours, the Telegraph reports. (You can see it here.) "I have seen her in person MANY times!" goes typical comment. "She's too gorgeous for them to be distorting her like this."
Plenty of people also pointed to the fact that a bar running across the wall behind Williams was distorted, ostensibly in the course of waist narrowing. The 34-year-old athlete replaced the offending image with a near-identical one, sans the photo doctoring. The new photo has garnered more than 44,000 likes and a host of approving comments. "Dark. Lovely. Powerful. Stay that way," reads one. Another fan tells Williams to be an "ambassador" for positive body image: "You should be proud of your curves. The worlds [sic] a mess!"
