A 29-year-old woman has died after the scooter she was driving was struck by an amphibious sightseeing vehicle in downtown Boston on Saturday, the AP reports. A spokesperson for Boston Duck Tours says the tour group is cooperating with police following the collision. The crash happened around 11:30am near Boston Common. A police spokesperson said the woman and her male passenger were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where the woman died from her injuries. The passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The police spokesperson said there were about 30 passengers on the vessel, known as a duck boat, when the crash happened. There were no other injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation, and Boston Duck Tours states it's looking for video footage of the incident. Four people were killed last September when a duck boat belonging to Ride the Ducks of Seattle collided with a charter bus carrying college students. In 2010, two people were killed when a duck boat in Philadelphia was hit by a barge. (More duck boat stories.)
