A young Indian father out for vigilante justice lured the teen accused of raping his baby daughter away from a Punjab state courthouse Tuesday, tied him to a tree, and cut both of the suspect's hands off, cops say, per AFP. The 25-year-old father, IDed as Parminder Singh, is then alleged to have dumped the 17-year-old into a dried-up canal. "A few villagers heard the juvenile's cries and ran toward the canal. They found the victim bleeding profusely … the father had fled by then," a senior Bathinda police official says, per the Indian Express, adding to AFP about the teen's extremities, "There is nothing below the wrists now."
The mother, whose baby was allegedly raped at the age of 7 months in April 2014, reportedly came across the teen assaulting her child. The accused was sent to a juvenile home while awaiting his rape trial, and the baby's father reportedly approached him after a hearing Tuesday on the pretense of reaching an out-of-court settlement. The teen and his severed hands were brought to a nearby hospital, where he was said to be in stable condition (it's unclear from reports if doctors were able to reattach his hands). Police are now looking for the father to bring attempted murder charges against him. (An Indian woman was burned alive for ditching an arranged marriage.)
