UCLA Escapes Aggies' Upset Bid

It wasn't pretty, but top-seed UCLA survived the second round, reports the LA Times. Despite shooting 39 percent from the field and trailing by as many as ten in the second half, the Bruins nonetheless avoided an upset, edging out the Texas A&M 53-49. Darren Collison was the hero, posting 21 points, including two baskets in the final minute of play.

With three of five starters failing to produce any points in the first half, UCLA trailed for the duration, taking their first lead of the game at 47-45  with a minute and a half remaining in regulation. Kevin love joined Collison on the leader board with 19 points and seven blocked shots. Donald Sloan led Texas A&M with 12 points. (More Texas A&M Aggies stories.)
