Drew Barrymore Divorcing: What Went Wrong?

It's over for Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman, just two months shy of their fourth wedding anniversary. The couple confirmed the split in a statement to People over the weekend: "Sadly our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family. Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on." What went wrong? A source tells the magazine, "They've had marriage issues for a while," specifically focused on where their family (they have 3-year-old and 1-year-old daughters) should live. They have been living in New York City, where Kopelman's wealthy parents also own an apartment, but Barrymore is from California. Early in their relationship, they split their time between New York and California.

Over the past few months, though, they've been "living separately," according to E!'s source, and Kopelman "has not been involved in her [beauty] company, Flower. They seemed also to not be very close or connected as a couple." Page Six's source, however, plants the blame a bit more squarely on Barrymore's shoulders: "Drew had a very rebellious and wild childhood, with no family around her, and while she is a very different person now, and a great mother, some of that can stay with you." Barrymore was interviewed by PopSugar just after the news broke, and though she didn't reference the split specifically, she noted at one point, "I had a really hard time a couple of months ago and kind of knew life was heading in a new direction. I called someone that I really trust, respect, and believe in, because he has always been the conductor of grace. I said, 'What's your advice?' And he said, 'You put one foot in front of the other.'" (Barrymore admitted in the past it wasn't love at first sight with Kopelman.)
