Lana Rae Meisner, wife of founding Eagles member Randy Meisner, was shot dead at the couple's LA-area home Sunday night. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ she called 911 reporting her husband was waving a BB gun and "acting erratically," and about 90 minutes later, Randy called 911 to say Lana had been shot. He claims she went into a room and closed the door; he heard a gunshot and entered to find her shot in the head. According to the New York Post, her death was a "freak accident." An LAPD detective tells the Post a female victim (he didn't disclose a name) at the residence was reaching for something in a closet when a gun accidentally discharged.
"It was completely accidental, there is nothing indicative of a murder, homicide or a suicide," he says. "It's a weird accident, that's all I can say. There was absolutely no struggle." Radar's source tells a similar story: Lana "was stumbling around, looking for something in a closet where there were two guns ... and Randy told cops one of the guns was falling and in the process, Lana Rae caught it and it ended up blowing her head apart." The source adds that police will be reviewing surveillance footage that might show what happened. After police found Lana dead, they took Randy to the hospital around 4:45am Monday because he was "acting in an altered state," sources tell TMZ. (More shooting stories.)
