Kansas State's young team knocked NBA-bound freshman star O.J. Mayo out of the NCAA tournament—keeping their own freshman phenom, Michael Beasley, for at least one more game. The Wildcats received major contributions from four other freshmen in the 80-67 win over Mayo's Trojans, but Beasley led his squad with 23 points and 11 boards.

He scored 18 in the second half after foul trouble limited him in the first. Bill Walker added 22 points and Dominique Sutton harassed Mayo into a 6-of-16 night; however, the celebrated USC guard notched 20 points with some late baskets. Eleventh-seeded Kansas State will face either #3 Wisconsin or #14 Cal State Fullerton in the second round. (More NCAA stories.)
