Chris Christie promised to reassess his candidacy following his disappointing finish in New Hampshire, and he was doing just that with top aides Wednesday morning, reports CNN. But the smart money is now on the New Jersey governor dropping out before the day is done: Both the network and ABC News quote anonymous sources as saying the decision is all but official. "We bet the ranch on New Hampshire, and no one ever anticipated the Trump phenomenon," says ABC's source. One big factor is that Christie's sixth-place finish means he wouldn't qualify for Saturday night's debate. The AP, meanwhile, has finalized the results from Tuesday night: Ted Cruz finished third, Jeb Bush fourth, and Marco Rubio fifth, behind Donald Trump and John Kasich. (More Election 2016 stories.)
