The Internal Revenue Service is scrambling to fix a major systems outage that could affect refunds, though it believes 90% of taxpayers will still get their refunds within 21 days of filing. Some of the agency's tax processing systems went down on Wednesday and it has temporary stopped accepting electronic returns, Mashable reports.
In a statement, the agency said taxpayers should still submit tax returns to their e-file provider, who will hold it until IRS systems are up and running again. The IRS says its IRS.gov site is still working, but services including "Where’s My Refund" are out of action for now. (More Internal Revenue Service stories.)
