The last undercard debate before the first votes are cast in the 2016 election—and thus possibly the last undercard debate, period—is in the books. This one featured Carly Fiorina, Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee, Jim Gilmore, and, of course, the shadow of Donald Trump. Some coverage highlights:
- It might have been former Virginia Gov. Gilmore's last hurrah, but based on how well he was trending on Twitter—apparently because of people trying to figure out who "Jim Gilmore" is—it was also likely his "finest hour," says Talking Points Memo.
- Perhaps the biggest line, or lines, came from Fiorina about Hillary Clinton. "She's escaped prosecution more times than El Chapo," she said. "Perhaps Sean Penn should interview her." Also: "She's probably more qualified for the big house" than the White House. Business Insider rounds them up.
- Trump was a big theme, with Santorum bashing host Fox's coverage. "The entire lead-up to this debate was talking about whether Donald Trump is going to show up for the next debate," he said. The Hill has more.
