Only Women Show Up to Senate After Blizzard

For what might be the first time in history, the United States Senate held only women on Tuesday. Only Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska took to the Senate floor after the weekend blizzard and were tasked with delaying Senate business, reports ABC News. Then Murkowski noticed something odd. "The presiding officer is female. All of our parliamentarians are female. Our floor managers are female. All of our pages are female," she said, per the Washington Post. While it was just a coincidence, it was also "genuinely fabulous," Murkowski said. "Perhaps it speaks to the hardiness of women, that put on your boots and put your hat on and get out and slog through the mess that’s out there." (More Senate stories.)
